Thinking Upside Down
How thinking about NOT achieving your goals can actually help achieve them!
How often do you visualize your goals and dreams?
If you're anything like me...
Is it every day?
Or maybe every hour?
Every minute?
I know I think about my goals constantly.
And that's OK.
My question today is have you ever thought of your goals and dreams upside down?
Now before I jump into inverted thinking, I need to ask you a favor. If there is anyone that you think this would resonate with or you just think they would like it, please share this newsletter.

I found this concept a few months ago and have been using it in my daily life.
It's called inverted thinking.
And it's both amazing and terrifying at the same time .
Think about it.
How easy is it to visualize a goal?
Unpack everything you need to do to complete the goal.
The steps.
The people.
The places.
How you'll feel.
It can be a pretty fun experience.
But, what if you could use human psychology to your advantage?
And increase the likelihood of achieving your goal?
That's what inverted thinking is.
Visualize your goal.
But instead of how you'll achieve it...
Focusing on all the ways you won't.
Human beings are hardwired to look for danger.
And avoid it.
Daniel Kahneman (RIP) won a Nobel Prize in Economics for his work on Prospect Theory
Which states, "a person is twice as likely to avoid a loss than go for a gain."
People are by nature, conservative.
So inverted thinking is natural.
But not automatic.
Take weight loss for example.
If I said I wanted to lose 20 lbs.
I would have the following action items.
Exercise regularly.
Eat less.
Drink water.
Which would all get me to my goal.
But if instead I look at the goal inverted, I can identify everything that would stop me from achieving my goal too.
So, if I said how do I NOT lose 20 lbs.
I would:
Not work out regularly.
Sit at my desk the entire day.
Watch TV for 4-5 hours every night.
Drink booze constantly
Eat dessert every day.
Avoid being consistent with my regiment.
Avoid accountability with my friends and family.
Just to name a few.
The point is I could make a much longer list of the ways NOT to achieve my goal.
The list would be more extensive and encompassing.
I naturally can find blind spots.
The list is now my guide of what NOT to do!
Increasing the likelihood of achieving my goal.
Pretty cool right?
Now why am I talking about not completing goals as a financial planner?
Because my job is results based.
My number one task is to help people achieve their goals!
I uncover and identify blind spots for clients.
Often because they don't know what they don't know.
But you can harness inverted thinking too.
Think....
What would keep me from retiring?
What would keep me from saving $5,000?
How could I pay the government the MOST taxes (a lot of you ask this and don't even know it!)
Write down your answers.
Then do the opposite!
Your pocketbook.
Waistline.
And career....
Will thank you.
What are you thinking? Drop me a line and let me know.
Oh, and share the newsletter!
But most importantly, have an amazing week.
